How secure is your Wi-Fi connection?
With Wi-Fi’s popularity soaring over the past decade, so too has the risk of hackers and other malicious actors. I mean how many scamming stories have we heard or maybe you’ve been scammed online before simply because you connected to a new Wi-Fi. It definitely posed a problem for companies concerned that an employee connecting from any public area be it a coffee shop, mall, cybercafé or even the neighbors Wi-Fi could be leaking data to anyone else in the room who had a Wi-Fi receiver. However, if you connect to secured access points using a properly configured VPN and WPA encryption, your connection is generally protected from many of the vulnerabilities that plagued earlier in open networks.
Why does Wi-Fi matter?
Now more than 20 years after its inception, Wi-Fi continues to grow and at a very high rate. One of for the biggest technology’s success has been the unending growth of devices where Wi-Fi can be installed this includes; home appliances (digital fridges), TVs, video game consoles, and smart watches, the list is endless. Its definitely made things easier. Communication is easier, bank transactions are easier, transportation has been made easier (commuter apps like Uber, Bolt and our very own little cab and Faras). Mainly the growth of the internet of things (IoT) can be traced to mainly the powerful performance, low cost and reliability of Wi-Fi networks.
With so many products and machines capability of supporting Wi-Fi and a bright and faster future not far off, one thing for sure the technology is here to stay.
